Staff training and development.
To ensure that all our staff have the necessary skills, training and development to meet all the differing needs of our clients, we have devised our own “in house” training programme. From the initial interview when a carer applies to join our team, we arrange an induction. At this induction, we give all newcomers as much information as we can as to their role and responsibilities in caring for others. Some will already have received training through previous work experience, but others will be new to this field. We identify their individual training needs and they self- assess their skills including any certificates and qualifications they already hold.
The Care Quality Commission has endorsed a training Care Certificate which was introduced in 2015 and this is the standard to which they monitor our care and training. You can find out more about the Care Certificate online and the requirements we must meet to ensure our staff are trained to provide the right level of care. We also ensure our staff take the following courses before they commence care work Health and Safety, Moving and Handling and Medication Administration.

- Pressure Ulcer Awareness
- Adults End of Life
- Safe Guarding Children Nutrition
- Infection Control
We carry out 3 monthly supervisions and annual appraisals with all our staff to ensure that we pick up on any concerns and further training needs that our staff may be interested in. They are encouraged to progress through the company starting with Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care and continuing up to Level 4 in Health and Social Care. This close relationship with our staff and continuing professional development ensures good staff retention and we support them with a 24 hour on call service and a 7 strong management team. In our recent Inspection Report by the Investors in People, our staff “enjoyed their jobs and felt supported by the management”. We pride ourselves on good staff morale and that we train our staff to provide quality care, which in turn, gives real “peace of mind” to our clients and their families.
We also offer specialist training in areas such as Parkinsons Disease, Dementia and Alzheimers, peg feeding, palliative care and many others which may be identified to us. When we take on a new member of staff they undergo the Skills for Care Induction Standards which complies with the Care Quality Commissions Essential Standards of Quality and Safety. As well as Health and Social Care Act 2008. All carers are supervised every three months and have annual appraisals together with ongoing training to include any specialist service user’s needs.
